The classic 'backstreet gem'. A Waddies pub with plenty of ale choice and is GBG listed. A gripe is that the cask offerings are at either end of the bar and therefore not helpful for the visitor. Friendly guv'nor who runs the place like an old skool 'mein host' who knew how to gently rib me for taking an external snap in a jovial way and ID’ed me as a ticker immediately. As I was on a timer I only had time for a half of a decent Lincoln Green beer (NBSS 3). As mentioned below, although the place is opened-out it has retained two distinct drinking areas. In the unlikely event I end-up in this Soton suburb again, I’d gladly call back. 7.5

A very decent backstreet corner boozer this one, despite a recent refurb it's been very tastefully done and lost none of its core charm. Single roomed, though with two distinct drinking areas, bare boarded floors with half wood paneled walls, a few tables and chairs and a full quota of barstools set around the horseshoe shaped bar. A Wadworth pub wouldn't normally set my pulse racing, but here I was delighted to find a couple of guest ales, Dark Star Hophead and the uncommonly seen down south Timothy Taylor Ram Tam, these were backing up Wadsworth's IPA,6X and Swordfish, also a real Cider, Status Quo Down Under.A really good pub in an area lacking any real competition.
