This was the first of four Donnington pubs we paid a visit to on a Saturday afternoon. It was the pick of the bunch and probably just about the best pub we tried in Gloucestershire on the day.

There are a couple of rooms. The largest is to the front and was mainly diners. A smaller room at the rear to the right of the bar seemed to have more drinkers, but less atmosphere. I did however notice a dartboard in there. There are also tables at the front. There were some plates on one of the tables. For me, it was a bit too cold outside to have eaten a meal. Given that there were plenty of dogs and children inside, I can only assume that every table was taken when those customers had arrived to eat. Another outdoor option is a rear garden.

We did manage to find a table in the front room. The bar located in the corner has three handpulls. Donnington BB & Cotswold Gold were the cask ales. The third handpull was clipped with Weston's Rosie's Pig. This was the only still cider we found on this visit to the Cotswolds. However, I chose the BB, which was probably the best of the Donnington beers I sampled throughout the day.

There is a fireplace on the left-hand side of the room, with a jar containing dog biscuits on a shelf above it. Next to the fireplace was a stuffed fox in a cabinet with board games such as Connect 4 & Trivial Pursuit on top. Jazz music was playing in the background, which added to the atmosphere.

Food didn't look it was served in particularly large portions and a menu advertising bar snacks to the side of the bar seemed a bit on the pricy side. Nevertheless, staff were friendly and the number of diners would suggest that it could still be worth eating here.

A very pretty Donnington pub. I found this a very frustrating group of pubs to tick off - on my tour of this area I drank in eight of them - as they are so variable. Not so much in appearance, as they are almost all made of local stone with varying degrees of well-preserved interiors. The variation is in the quality of the beer, which is a bit concerning, as one of the advantages of selling your own beer in pubs that you also own, served by people you can train and supervise, should be consistent excellence. This is not what happens in my experience. My half of Donnington BB here was too cold and too gassy - how does that happen? It's a cask conditioned beer: serve it at the right temperature but not until it has finished conditioning. Variation in price is almost as alarming, with this beer on sale here at £5/pint and in my previous pub - same beer, same ownership - just £3.50. After visiting more than half of their pubs, it is difficult not to conclude that Donningtons don't know what they are doing. This pub may look very good on chocolate boxes and TV series, but I found it uncomfortable and frustrating.

Gorgeous pub - where the beauty has been picked up by TV location scouts. Its the Pig and Whistle from Father Brown - and has a sign inside used in the tv production.

Overlooking a huge village green.

Classic country boozer inside with a couple of rooms mainly setup for dining and seat in the bay window for drinkers.

Outdoor seating. Pub #2 for me on the Donnington Way.

Donnington's pubs are almost always chocolate-box village pubs, and this is no exception; I just wish I could acquire a taste for their beer. You can't win 'em all, I guess. Anyway this magnificent village green pub remains as described by AW below, now with plenty of outdoor seating and a marquee for inclement days.

It's a GBG regular, the bitter was technically fine, and Covid regs present and correct. Oh and thanks to the guvnor for serving us while they were closing up for the afternoon.

Well worth a visit.

The Fox Inn is in a really nice looking village that is fairly close to Stow on the Wold.
Once inside this pub had a bar area which had a stone floor and normal tables and chairs and there was a small raised area to the rear which was carpeted and a dining area at the back of the pub, there was another dining area to the right this was in a seperate room.
This pub is a Donnington tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Donnington BB and this was a very nice drink the other beer was Donnington SBA.
The toilets are well worth a visit to see the saucy postcards and jokes on the walls.
We thought this was a really nice pub in a lovely setting and well worth the visit.
