A proper village inn, seemingly based on several cottages, and with the door on what is now the quiet back street. Before the bypass it would surely have faced a busy road, with the relief road apparently having been driven through the back yard. There's a choice inside the entrance, with a door labelled Restaurant to the left, while that on the right is labelled Lounge. I chose the latter, a fairly small room with four Britannia tables with wooden tops, each with a table number displayed in anticipation of overspill from the other room, plus a high table near the bar with half a dozen high stools, in a nod to non-eaters. The bar counter has three hand pumps, with Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Purity Mad Goose. My half of the latter was an enjoyable drink in very good condition, costing just over £2.
