Strongers . left this review about Lubens

Lubens is a café bar with a mix of armchairs, standard tables and chairs and beer shelves with high stools. An exposed brick wall runs up the left where chopped logs sit next to a fireplace. Seating in the left rear has a glass ceiling overhead and the bar area with some high seating is found in the right rear. Three of the four hand pumps were in operation drawing Jaipur, Beartown’s Skinful and Peak Ales Chatsworth Gold. Premium and craft keg were also available alongside coffee and cakes from the extremely friendly staff. As I approached the counter the smell from a coffee being placed on the counter hit my nostrils, so I decided to have a break from the ale to enjoy a hot drink under the rain hitting the aforementioned glass ceiling overhead. This isn’t the sort of place I would usually revisit, but the atmosphere was so relaxed and friendly that I’d pop back in again if passing. Maybe I’ll actually have a pint next time!

The young staff in here were very welcoming and friendly and after reading other reviews, this seems to be consistent. This place is mainly food led, but I did notice a few customers just popping in for a pint and sitting at the bar. Four chrome handpumps with three in use serving Thornbridge Jaipur, Beartown Onikuma and Peakstones Chained Oak.

Nice little cafe / bar which is well described below. I found the service to be very friendly and the beer choice as good as anywhere else in Buxton with 4 ales on. Jaipur, Wincle Bengal Buttress and one each from Peak Ales and Storm Brewing. Worth calling in.

Decided to give the place another try when in Buxton on Saturday evening. Still has four hand pulls at the bar but this time offering Thornbridge Jaipur, Wincle Waller, Beartown LBS and Brewsmith Pale - a much improved selection compared to my previous visit. The Beartown LBS was £3.50 a pint.

The place was reasonably busy on Saturday at around 8:30pm and some of the customers were dining but drinkers were just as welcome. It had a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Four hand pulls at the bar. At the time of my visit these were dispensing neck Lifter (Jennings), Saddle Tank (Marstons), Jaipur (Thornbridge) and Sir Philip (Wincle). A half of the Sir Philip set me back £1.80 or so, and was an OK if unremarkable bitter.

The place seems to be quite food focussed, there are food menus on the table and a specials board. The menu is of the premium gastro fancy end of the market rather than basic pub grub.

The place is smart and service was friendly. There was a real fire going in the front half of the building. The second half has the bar, which is initially hidden from view when entering. The toilets are down a corridor past this area, by this point you begin to wonder if the building ever ends or just goes on forever; it is definitely bigger than it looks from the outside!

I can't really fault the place and to have four real ales on in somewhere that appears to be food orientated isn't bad. But for me I am not sure there is much to rush back, but was glad to have been and tried it.

This is a shop or cafe conversion, and in fact there was previously a cafe bar or pub called Beltane on the same site. The bar is in an extension at the back, facing an area with a glass roof and a side wall lined with fire logs (there is a real fire in the front room). It was quite busy at the time of my early Friday evening visit, with couples, groups of friends and even the occasional family with young children enjoying the relaxing ambience. The bar had four hand pumps with two local ales and two from the Marstons stable. Most if not all of the keg offerings were also Marstons, so I suspect a helping hand from that operation was behind the reopening of this place. Service was friendly and the beer in good condition (it's in the 2018 Good Beer Guide).

This place describes itself as a Bar & Kitchen. It looks like a shop conversion and consists of a rectangular wooden floored room with the bar at the rear and tables set out for dining at the front. It struck me as being a bit trendy.
There are four hand pumps which had Brakspear Bitter, Marstons Saddletank, Thornbridge Jaipur and Mobberley Barn Buster. With two beers from the Marston Stable and two of their keg offerings present I did wonder if they got their beers through the brewing giant. I went for the Jaipur (£4.00) which was in good nick. It's GBG 2017 listed but not really my sort of place.

A trendy like place that could possibly be full of knobheads of a weekend evening. That said it was quite pleasant on this afternoon visit. A single room with bare brick wall to the left side. 4 handpumps dispense a variety of changing guest ales. A boars head is prevalent on the wall to your left.
