I was in Dent back in March and noticed that the Sun Inn was closed at 2:45pm on a Monday afternoon, whereas WhatPub and the pub's own web site has it as being open from 11am. This was just before the great COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 so it is possible that the pub may have been winding down in anticipation of being told to close, so I won't judge too harshly, but I would definitely check ahead if you were thinking of planning a special visit.

The Sun Inn, like most of Dent, is very photogenic, but I was slightly disappointed in it as a pub. I can remember staying in the village a couple of times 20 years or so ago and thought at the time it was the better of the two pubs. (As I recall, this was the outlet for Dent brewery beers then, not the George & Dragon.) Now I found it a little run down and underused. OK, it was the middle of winter, but a Saturday night, with only a small handful of people, all locals (though one, by her accent, clearly an in-comer). The conversation was all about local matters, so I didn't feel inclined to join in, and the beers were all pale and thin in the modern style. I went for Kirkby Lonsdale Monuments 4.5% and didn't feel impressed enough to want to come back the next day. Maybe it's better here in summer.
