The Railway is a large Holts pub that had the Bitter and Two Hoots available from the four hand pumps on the front bar. I was the only customer in this bar during a recent Wednesday evening visit, but I could here some laughter coming from the rear that I didn’t visit on this occasion. There was some background music playing and Premier League football via TNT Sport was muted on the televisions throughout. The service was polite, but I’m not a huge fan of Holts beer so I’ll probably not be visiting again.

Initially I thought this large standalone pub was Wetherspoons. Spoons is slightly further on and out of the two this was most definitely the better pub. The standard of decor and fixtures and fittings was far superior in here. I especially liked the Azure blue tiles up to dado height and the collection of modern wall clocks above this. Two Holt's beers Two Hoots and their regular bitter. The bitter was in good nick and the pub had a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Large food based pub which is now rum By Joseph Holt. 3 of their beers on when I called - 2 Hoots, Bitter and Hoppily Ever After. I had a pint of the latter which was off and tasted like vinegar! It was quickly changed with no fuss and the 2 Hoots was excellent. Regular quiz night.

Down the road from the station and under the railway viaduct. A Greene King pub with the usual IPA and Speckled Hen plus today there was Purple Reign and Abbeydale Moonshine available. A large open plan place though there is a function room to the rear. Its a typical GK eatery pub and it isn't too bad. A fairly decent place to start your crawl I suppose.

Food-oriented Greene King pub under the old railway viaduct. The decor is modern wood with old photos, and the sort of tables you feel awkward about sitting at if you've only got a drink. The usual range of beers (IPA, Abbot, Old Speckled Hen and Olde Trip), but this is a pub for a bite to eat after shopping rather than supping real ales.
