E TA left this review about RC Bar

A sports bar as described by JAQPTIO, below, comprising most of the basement of the former Royal Clarence Hotel. Garish neon signs at the door, the door itself looking rather uninspiring, make you think of a seedy dive bar, but once inside it’s actually not unpleasant. Three large TV screens showing three different sports, a large selection of musical instruments fixed to the wall, a gaming machine and a selection of seating arrangements ranging from tables to plastic sofas give it a modicum of sports bar character. They host quiz nights, live bands and other events. The Welsh barmaid was very welcoming and helpful, though we didn’t see any other staff so she was probably overworked. Still four handpumps on the bar, three in operation, dispensing Jail Ale, Otter Bitter and Tribute, all in very good condition. Also available were Carling, 1664, Carlsberg, Thatcher’s Gold and Dry, Guinness and San Miguel. I don’t usually comment on the lavatory facilities, but these were particularly fragrant in a very medieval way. Not my usual choice of pub type, but the ale makes it worth a visit if in the area, and it’s a better bet than the cafe bars on the sea front.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Royal Clarence

Basic two-room sports bar, appearing to be a remnant of a once much larger hotel, with a multitude of TV screens and plenty of boisterous customers on a Sunday afternoon. Also has an equally plain patio seating area at the Somewhat surprisingly, it does sell cask ale, and I found Dartmoor Jail Ale and Otter Bitter (£4.50) available from a bank of four handpumps.

Appears to be the remaining part of a larger hotel, but is now a sports bar. The front bar has a reasonably modern feel, with a games room behind leading through to an outdoor area. Saving grace is a couple of decent ales on pump (Otter and Jail Ale), and Cask Marque listing. Ok at quiet times.

I didnt go in, this is just a basic comment. A place for the young, a 'shots' bar downstairs, so i assume the lager was in the club upstairs - several taxis arrived to cart off the drunk in the few minutes i was waiting at the chip shop over the road.
