The Rope and Anchor has a sparsely furnished games room that houses a pool table and dartboard to the left and a bar with an L-shaped serving counter to the right. This counter faces seating along the front windows and some high tables to the right. Further right are two seating areas, with the one towards the rear looking like it is geared towards dining. I gleaned from a quick glance at the menu that pub grub is available and the burgers are priced around £9. I was actually looking for somewhere to eat, but decided to wait to see if I would find somewhere with some decent beer. There are three hand pumps in amongst the standard keg, but two were unused and the third was off. I don’t plan on revisiting.

Two roomed pub, half way between the station and the town centre. Pool table in the left hand room and big screens everywhere. Not a particularly friendly welcome from the barman who seemed to begrudge serving me. Three handpumps on the bar, but none of them clipped, in fact one had a roll of kitchen towels on it. This pub is in the Atherton Ale Trail leaflet, so must have served real ale at some point. It's just a local local now with no reason for me to ever visit again.
