Old building thoroughly modernised interior. Some bits work but a lot doesn't and its a bit cheap in places, fake grass in the courtyard and some tacky fittings. Nice enough though, 9 real ales, mainly standards.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Green Dragon
Unbranded M&B (Oak Tree) pub whose narrow façade belies the extensive seating within the elongated rectangular interior. Pleasantly semi-traditional appearance both inside and out. Further seating in the side alleyway. I found a cider and eight real ales on the ten handpumps - not that exciting a selection, but my pint of Sharp's Rising Tide red ale (£2.80) was nice enough.

Although we were here on a quiet Monday rather than a busy Friday, our impressions were much the same as Aqualung's (below). In fact, nearly all the beers were the same too (see photos). I suppose it's encouraging that a market square pub has so many real ales to chose from, but it's difficult to feel at home in a building that's been mucked about with to the extent that this one has - and in this regard it is typical of a market square pub. If you're after a good selection of well kept but not terribly interesting beers, this would be a good call, but if you want somewhere to relax and look around, try somewhere else.

As noted below this is a very long narrow pub with a low ceiling, beams and generally rather dark. A quiz was advertised as well as live music & karaoke to drive you into going somewhere else. It was fairly busy early on a Friday evening.
There are ten hand pumps here one of which was unused and one taken with a cider. One was taken up with the most ridiculous guest ale ever "Sky Sports New Season". Only a global abomination could come up with as naff an idea as this, in this case Mouldy Corpse. To cap it all this lightweight 4.2% rubbish was priced 40p dearer than the Summer Lightning so presumably the Dirty Digger is getting a cut.
Other beers were Doom Bore, GK IPA, Harviestoun Summer Legend Easy IPA, an Inveralmond beer, Adnam's Ghost Ship and York Terrier. I went for the Summer Lightning (£2.85) which was in good nick.
I didn't really take to this pub but it was OK.

A popular pub this one, especially on Market days. I agree with Quinno, that this is a long pub and goes back quite some way. The bar area faces you as you enter from the side entrance and there was a choice of 9 ales and 1 cider. I went for the Sambrooks Session pale ale, which was a firm contender for Beer of the Week. This was a decent and well run pub and is well worth a visit.

Looks small from the Tudoresque front but the inside extends a very long, knocked-through, way back with a long side corridor adjacent (which is also where you enter). Wood panelling, red button back banquettes and felt just like a trad Nicholson. C4 news on mute TVs. At the bar was a pretty decent selection; Rev James, Wainwright, Proper Job, Hophead, Galaxy Equinox, Adnams Broadside and Moorhouse Black Cat Reserve (good nick). The place was packed and clearly the most popular pub sampled that evening. However it’s not really got an intrinsic charm of the type the Chequers or Dog & Duck hold. But a first-time visitor to Beverley would well-advised to try it.

A deceptively narrow Tudor frontage leads into a very large pub that seems to go back forever. It's a Nicholsons pub, so you know there will be a decent if not unusual range of cask ales, in this case there were 7 available. I tried 2 of them and both were in good nick. The food menu looked more like a JDW than a Nicholsons although we didn't eat, lots of other people were doing. There's an interesting alley with tables to sit in on the warmer days, although there are space heaters as well. It's a decent pub that may have to up its game when the new JDW opens just behind it.

This is a very nice old pub on the market place.
There is'nt a door at the front you have to walk up an alleyway and the entrance is on the right, there is also an outside seating area where the alleyway opens out.
Once inside this pub is quite smart with a long bar and a very long narrowish room we prefer to sit in the front area of the pub, there are about 6 or 7 real ales on the bar which have always been well kept when ive been in here on my last visit i had a drink of Castle Rock Harvert Pale which was very nice.
This is by far the best pub on the market place and would come in the top 5 in Beverley, well worth a visit.

Had 5 out of the 7 hand pulls in use on our visit. Had the RCH Old Slug Porter which was well kept. Food is the usual good quality for this Nicholsons pub.
