Visited 11/10/25. Visited previously 19/09/18.

Cask offering was their own branded Glassworks Best Bitter and the Cwrw from Evan Evans. Standard sort of keg offering of Moretti, Estrella Galicia, Peroni, Amstel, Guinness, Level Head IPA, Thatcher’s Gold, Inch's, the berries & cherries Old Mount cider, Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropica, K1664 Blanc and the GK Hazy Day Fruity IPA.

No prizes for guessing from the keg beer offering that this is a GK pub. Surprising none of their regular cask offering. Bar counter in a bare boarded venue is up a couple of steps on the right-hand wall. Regular tables and chairs around the entrance on the ground floor level with some tall tables around the bar counter, served by tall stools and some leather banquettes. Beyond the bar counter in the rear part of the venue were regular tables and chairs, some drinking ledges with stools and plenty of large screens showing the early evening rugby action. Busy but tolerable and the Cwrw was a decent pint here.

A splendid building in the streets off Cardiff's main drag, it's not hard to see where this pub got its name from. And it's great to see a glorious building finding a new purpose; just a pity it's such a poor excuse for a pub. Actually, it's not a pub, it's a sports bar. Being part of the Greene King empire is arguably not doing it any favours either. I had Wye Valley Butty Bach, the solitary guest ale on the five hand pumps: disappointing to have paid as much as £2.10 for a half of a rather poor beer that was very much a last resort for me - GK IPA and Abbot (both doubled up) were the alternatives. I drank up quickly and made my way around the corner to the Cottage for their very well kept Brains Dark at only £1.45 for a half.
