More pub than restaurant these days but you can still just drink here in the right hand bar and to be fair a few people were. Has been refurbed and is now pine wood heavy, looked a bit done on the cheap to me. Rugby on the TV and fairly hopeless bob-a-job staff, with loads of empties strewn around like a heavy metal groups roadies had just departed after some hell-raising. Two ale pumps, jus GK IPA on (and pretty weak it was too). The grubby gents really put a seal on things, what sort of supposedly mid-market food chain has toilets that look like something out of a train station? The entire place lacks focus. Bring back the Plough, says I. Rated 2

Yet more Greene King on the Wokingham outskirts, a boringly sad monopoly. However, unlike the Three Frogs and Poplars, this is an enjoyable place to sink a couple of pints; IPA, Abbot and Speckled Hen on offer today (and the Abbot was particularly good). Pub follows the usual GK out-of-town bar restaurant feel, however this one is a tad more upmarket and the outside seating provides a good place for a lazy beer on a summers afternoon, even if it is by the main road. Perhaps a bit too cavernous inside to generate a particularly cosy feel, this is still a notch above a number of other offerings nearby. Rated 7
