This sports-oriented bar shares the building it occupies with a Chinese restaurant. It was much more basic and down-to-earth than I had been anticipating. The single room has a laminate floor and many flags on the ceiling. Pumpclips and beer mats can be found on the beams.

Multiple TVs were showing live golf, with the 2 other customers showing no interest in this at all, when we arrived. 1 was more intent on playing one of the games machines. There is also a jukebox. Most tables were reserved for a 7pm quiz, despite it only being early Sunday afternoon. A dartboard sits in one corner opposite a Chesterfield.

Stairs lead up to another unexplored room, whilst there is some outdoor seating on a bench with cushions, if you fancy watching the goings on in the street.

On saying hello to the almost non-verbal barman, I just received a blank look. The local Unsworth's Yard Sir Edgar Harrington's Last Wolf is the regular beer. A guest beer was Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold, with a third handpull unclipped. Ciders were Aspall's & Carling Black Fruits. When I ordered the Unsworth's Yard beer, the barman sprang to life, informing me that the beer was strong (I'm not sure I would consider 4.5% to be strong) but I confirmed that I was ok with my choice. A CAMRA discount is offered and promoted on a poster which I later saw but I obviously didn't appear to be a CAMRA type, as it was not offered to me!

Food is by way of pizza, served Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Perhaps this makes the place busier in the evening. The bar did become busier during our visit but it lacked any kind of atmosphere.

A little disappointing for a Good Beer Guide-listed pub.

A multi-function conversion of a large building - could it have been a cinema? The bar is in a gloomy room on the right, with a sports bar feel to it but with the possibility of turning into a night club at the flick of a switch. There are four hand pumps, with Wainwright on one and two from local Unsworths: Crusader and Last Wolf. As I'd had the latter at the brewery tap in Cartmel earlier, and also less well presented (and much more expensive) at the racecourse, I thought I would give it another try. It was better (and cheaper) than the racecourse, but not a patch on the brewery tap, which I suppose is as it should be. There are pizzas available here, and the basement bar is styled as a gin bar. Does Grange over Sands need somewhere like this? Apparently it does.
