Roadside A4 pub between Reading and Newbury, looks nice from the outside. Surprisingly large; a 1970s style brick bar at the front, a dining/drinking room to the right of this and a semi-corridor (with some dining spaces) leading to a formal dining area at the rear via the toilets. Décor is an odd mish-mash of styles. Real fire in situ but unlit. Two ales on, Arkells Wiltshire Gold and West Berks GOB (tasted strange, I’ve had a few in my time and this one fell short). Desmond was unhappy about the bar offering only Ready Salted crisps. ‘Pie of the day’ caught our eye on the menu. Almost no-one in and the atmosphere was moon-like. Closes afternoons.
