Mild Drinker left this review about The Signal Box

Quite an upmarket looking pub near the station. No real ale just a selection of lagers. I had a Peroni which was an eye watering price at over 7 quid. Not much to recommend here.

Bucking Fastard left this review about Pitcher & Piano

Now carrying the name Signal Box above the apex door but still very much part of the Pitcher & Piano chain there is a large open plan interior with an initial huge space for vertical drinking next to a small upright piano, high tables opposite the bar, banquettes running below the windows on one side, while to the right of the entrance a series of dining type tables with scattered menus of the food service tosh.
Naturally no real ale, very mainstream kegs with Neck Oil seeming the best bet but £3.40 a half.At least the muzak wasn't ear splitting but the place was empty and lacking atmosphere.
I won't be darkening their door again, pretty awful.

Quinno _ left this review about Pitcher & Piano

A coat of paint but pretty much the same cavernous lanyard-enticer it ever was. Undrinkable half of Jennings Cumberland this week.

April 2014
Large modern bar for the slightly more upmarket town centre punter although the thudding after-work music makes me wonder quite how sophisticated shouting a conversation at someone less than three feet away from you is. The large ground floor windows are nice and grabbing seat next to one makes for a pleasant 20 minutes. Prices are steep. Real ale available via the Marstons Fastcask system but as I've found it is no substitute for decent cellarmanship as both are often out of action or decidedly flat. First opened as Bar Excellence, back in the day.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Pitcher & Piano

All of the usual bland modern corporate furniture and decor that you would expect from the chain, along with some background music designed not to frighten elderly relatives. On the plus side, at least the two handpumps were both on, with Hobgoblin and Jennings Cumberland on offer.

The beer range is all that stands out here, there is a wider choice than most bars including Budvar on tap. Otherwise it feels more like a coffee/eating place.
