Large and historic old coaching inn, with old beams and woodwork, although slightly refurbished. Two rooms either side of the bar, with a larger room up a level although this was in use for a funeral party at time of visit, which is apparently not uncommon. Large outdoor area at the rear, as is the large car park which is accessed through the arch. Noted for food, which is certainly recommended, and ales included some interesting local ones alongside the usual suspects and were very drinkable (Cask Marque listing).

The pub has had a bit of a spruce up since my previous visit both inside and out. Very attractive floral displays to the frontage and the old Wilderspool Ales signage has been repainted. The food is expensive for the area, more what I'd expect to pay in my London home but it is absolutely first rate and worth the money. Beers on this occasion were Robinson's Unicorn, Black Sheep Bitter and Young's Bitter (still must be a regular). Live football now shown in the posh vault. Up a mark for the sympathetic restoration of the outside and the great food.

Popped in today while exploring the area, no previous knowledge, but found things ok. The lad behind the bar told us that the place is now under a new individual owner, having taking on from the Punch Group. Lovely old coaching house, well maintained, serving Hancocks HB, Black Sheep Bitter and Youngs Bitter.......In Cheshire for God's sake. ( I'm a SW Londoner)
Two main rooms in the NW style. ie lounge and vault, but a bit posh for a vault as I knew it. Big screen TV. Loads of dark wood panelling, comfy chairs and old tables with edges raised, I'm guessing for shove h'penny?
