As you may have guessed the place likes its music of an evening. A single room from what I could make out. its a bit ragged inside A beer garden to the rear is overlooked by part of the city wall. A from communal courtyard is out front. 3 handpumps on the bar serving real ales.

Four years on and the only change is the beer , gone are the local Weetwood beers to be replaced by (a poor)Doombar and GK IPA , a pity

As the name suggests this place is a live venue at night , the pictures of past acts include most of the well known faces of the Comedy circuit and lots of famous Jazz , Folk and Blues artists . There are entrance charges most nights (after 9pm depending on the act). During the day however its a continental style cafe bar , you enter down an alley off Northgate into a small courtyard , Alexanders is in the corner , there is seating outside and large french doors which are opened in nice weather to give a continental feel , to the left is the gig area with some stools on a raised area and a few rows of seating , there are some fine photos of the young Rolling Stones on the walls , to the right is an horseshoe bar , a door to the right of the bar leads to a huge beer garden nestling up to the city walls , stairs lead up to the rather grotty toilets , the walls in the stairwell are covered in posters from old gigs . Beers are the usual stuff and suprisingly 2 real ales Weetwood Cheshire Cat and Eastgate Ale , the Cheshire Cat was very good . I will definatly visit again , its a nice place to spend a quite hour away from the hustle of Saturdays shoppers

Bar is as described by Oggwyn, so I won't bother. We called in on a Sunday afternoon when there's a free gig every week. A decent enough jazz band were playing. I had a pint of the Cheshire Cat which was in good nick and we spent a pleasant 30 minutes listening to the band. It was rather quiet though and I don't see how they make the Sunday free gig pay.
