The only pub in the village of Malpas, this one is located not far from Truro, despite feeling a world away. It's primarily a food-led establishment. Indeed, I think all of the tables inside were reserved for diners, along with some on a small verandah space to the front which was nicely shaded. This left drinkers to occupy the area outside on the opposite side of the road to the pub, where there are some benches and some picnic tables. The views over the Truro River are excellent, with the pub overlooking a bend in the river.

Inside is one long room, with a few local pictures on the walls. There was a stuffed heron in one corner, a bird which can be seen frequently in the area. At the bar, cask ales are limited to local staples Tribute & Proper Job. Arctic Sky was the keg beer and the cider was Rattler. Strangely enough, for a pub reknowned for its food, the gents toilets absolutely stank. Parking in the village is limited. I ended up parking about half a mile out of the village and walking back.

A below average pub brought up to an average score by its scenic setting.

Graham Coombs left this review about Heron Inn

Not far from Truro is this smart eating house, with superb views down the Truro River. The inside has been tastefully modernised in typical St Austell brewery fashion, with lots of light wood flooring and furniture setting off the occasional stone wall. The interior has been opened out into one long room mainly set out for dining, although there is one cosy area just off the bar with sofas. There are also a few tables outside overlooking the water. A clutch of St Austell brews is on draught, often including their small batch brew. The food is pretty good by the way.
