Will Larter left this review about The Brewery Arts Centre
Accessed through an archway next to the Kendal Hostel (formerly YHA), which is helpfully labelled The Brewery, the arts centre is a complex of theatre and dance space, workshops, cinema, restaurant and bar, the latter having access in appropriate weather to a pleasant garden enclosed by the walls of the former brewery. Although publicity material in the archway states that the bar is open all day every day, I found this not to be the case (see the arts centre's website for opening times).
The bar is next to the restaurant and has an ambience midway between a cafe and a student common room, so would not be my first choice of pub if revisiting Kendal. Four hand pumps on the end of the bar offered a slightly strange choice of Greene King St Edmunds Ale, the rugby/animal themed Touch Paws Engage from Brains (great sense of humour, the Welsh), Thwaites Wainwright and Jennings High Spy. The beer here was among the more expensive on my ten pub crawl of Kendal, and I didn't feel that the beer quality or the surroundings justified the premium.
