Five hand pumps, including a very good Hawkshead Windermere Pale 3.4%; the house beer is brewed by Great Corby. Hugely popular pub with meals fully booked when I was here on a Monday, and the beer is good enough for it to deserve a place in the current GBG, though the Coniston Bluebird was a bit green.

A long building that I have often passed on my way from Eskdale to Wasdale, but I think only once before gone in, and that so many years ago that the memory is hazy. Entering from the car park, the bar is accessed through a maze of low ceilinged rooms, at the farther end of the building, from which there's a further door out into the beer garden. It's a pleasant room, cool on a warm day - a fireplace suggests the opposite would also be true.
There are two banks of hand pumps, with Hawkshead Bitter, Timothy Taylor Landlord and a house beer on the bank of four, and the Bower House Bitter (whose provenance I was unable to determine) repeated on the bank of two. There were also two ciders available, though presumably in polypins as they were not on the bar. Service was friendly though a little slow - just bad luck that I was preceded by a family with a large order. The house beer was OK, and at "only" £3.20 a pint not bad for this area.
