Will Larter left this review about Pig & Whistle
I remember the Pig & Whistle when it was a Hartleys pub. I used to come here on race days: when the pubs in the square were full to bursting, this one was still fairly civilised. A long building with two distinct rooms, the left hand room is now labelled "bistro", which I suppose is a sign of the times. On the bar, just Robinsons Dizzy Blonde and Hartleys Cumbrian Way. I took my half of the latter, an undistinguished brew, out into the back garden, where some sort of BarBQ servery had been set up. The lass who was supposed to be running it was instead filling her face and playing with her mobile phone: another sign of the times, I suppose. I paid £1.80 for my half - I'd be surprised if that's what is charged on non-race days.
