Of the 4 pubs in Coniston village itself, this Robinson's pub is the only one that doesn't appear in the Good Beer Guide.
I arrived on a very blustery night in Coniston and found a number of locals sat at the bar and around tables. A number of kids and a dog were also present.
Service was a little slow, as the barmaid was dealing with a large round for the people sat at the bar. Another guy arrived shortly after and asked the guy next to me if he was being served, before wandering off without asking me. Luckily the guy standing next to me called him back, as they knew one another!
The 4 real ales were Cumbria Way, Wizard, Dizzy Blonder & Unicorn. I avoided all of these and instead chose the Hopnik Citra IPA, a Robinson's keg beer.
A number of tables were reserved for later in the evening, but I couldn't see anybody eating whilst I was there.
Fairly average pub. If you're in Coniston, you might as well visit. The other 3 pubs in the village itself are all better.

Seems to have had a big makeover since my last visit.
very smart.
There's some stiff competition for your beer pound in Coniston.

This is a big old inn which looks like it's been added to at various times. The pub part has had a fairly recent refurbishment. The bar itself is in very smart modern wood panelling, with ecclesiastical arches below the bar rail and glass panels above declaring "The Crown Hotel - The Heart of the Lake District" (not strictly-speaking true - at least, not geographically). The chairs and bench seats are covered in strikingly patterned upholstery, and there are engravings of various game birds on the walls. Two wide screen TVs face the long side of the bar but they were not on and there was no music playing when I was here, a Monday lunchtime in January.
As with most, if not all, Robinsons pubs in the Lake District, there is Hartleys XB on hand pump, plus Hartleys Cumbrian Way and a Robinsons beer. Although the Crown is not in the same league as the Sun or the Black Bull, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in Coniston.
