Georgian terrace town pub on the main road through what was once quite an affluent suburb of Bath, it's now a Grade II listed building, although the interior has been substantially remodelled at some point. At the front is a narrow row of seats which serves as a smoking area, from which the front door, framed by a large wooden barrel which serves as a portal, is entered. Inside, the ground floor rooms have been mostly conjoined to form an irregular-shaped bar area, the rear-most part being a games room. The latter has a pool table and gaming machines, and the floor is a low-quality laminate, at odds with the exposed ceiling timbers. The remainder of the bar has a mix of laminate and old wooden flooring, and there are more gaming machines, a jukebox and a large TV screen for watching live sports matches, though it was turned off when we visited. There was a disco ball hanging from the ceiling, and a large pair of speakers was present - they host regular live acts and other entertainment. Thankfully the mediocre pop music being played was on a less powerful HiFi system. There is a small paved courtyard garden at the back. It has a real town local feel, though it was a bit cliquey. The barmaid was friendly enough, and water and treats were offered for the dogs. The bar counter was near the front, on the right hand side as you enter. This was a bow-shape, with two handpumps at one end and a bank of keg taps in the middle. Only one ale on draft, Dartmoor Legend, which was in average condition. The second pump was dry and unclipped. The keg options were Cruzcampo, Henry Weston's, Thatcher's Gold and Dry, Guinness, Foster's, 1664, Stella and Amstel. It's a decent enough local if you live here, but the lack of emphasis on ale means I wouldn't make it a venue of choice.
