Probably the best beer in Hathersage, but a bit odd to find two beers on and both of them stouts. I swerved the Bring out Your Dead from Eyam Brewery - it's a cappuccino stout - and went for the more conventional oatmeal stout from Welbeck Brewery with the unusual name The Rink, with a skating boot on the pump clip. (The "coming soon" display on the bar back had one more stout and two that weren't.) My pint was good (NBSS 3) but poured a little trepidatiously by the inexperienced server. Still, it was a pleasant drink. The bar counter is an unusual construction of local sandstone and a tree trunk section, but the area of the pub to the right, with pool and darts, has a more traditional feel, with wood panelling. To the left is the dining room, which has a display of local photos in colour, not framed but in a wall-covering collage that is fairly impressive. This is a good place to wait for a bus on a winter's day, or for a meal or a few beers in summer, when there will likely be fewer stouts on.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Little John Hotel

The exterior signage is for a hotel (which it is) but this is also very much a pub / restaurant too. Refurbished, semi-traditional bar area, featuring a pool table in the rounded end of the wedge-shaped building, and two other seating / dining areas to the left with a small patio beer garden beyond. Two Eyam beers on the three handpumps: Quarantine blonde ale and the 5.0% ESB.

Locals pub - large, multi roomed including a popular pool room, food and sports TV.

Beer was in great condition - not seen the Welbeck Abbey brewery before but I tell the care the barman was taking in changing one of the barrels that it was looked after.

The Little John is a stone built pub that was quite busy on the saturday afternoon i went here, this seems more of a locals pub it had two real ales on these were Wentworth imperial which was very drinkable and Kelham Little John, this isnt a bad pub to stay for a few drinks and alot better than the pub just down the hill from here.
