After a change of policy by the community enterprise which owns the pub and has run it since 2013, the Anglers has had a refurbishment under the new leaseholders, Atlantik Inns, based in the Peak District. There's still a cafe and post office, and the layout is much as described in the previous review, but a pool table has been reintroduced and different wallpapers denote the various rooms: fish in the bar area I can understand, and maybe stags in the dining room, but books in the games room is going to be a puzzle for me. Service was very welcoming and helpful, and there were six hand pumps to choose from. I swerved the Old Peculier and went for a half of the two from local Intrepid (Solito and Ignis) which were both in very good condition. The other three options were from local Eyam brewery. It seems these two breweries are going to feature regularly. This was a pleasant stop on a warm, sunny day of cycling. Luckily it's only 10 miles from home. Maybe I should come here more often.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Anglers Rest
Village pub given a new lease of life as a community enterprise, now incorporating a Post Office and the daytime Rest Café within the multi-room interior, with the more traditional bar and two seating / dining areas to the left of the front entrance. Also has some garden seating at the side and back of the car park. A better selection of cask ales that I expected, with a pair each from Abbeydale (Daily Bread and Moonshine) and Neepsend (Asar and Helhest, and both in fine form) - from the five handpumps. Overall, a decent place to stop if walking in the area.

Good Beer Guide 2019 - but I expect its more to do with the community efforts in keeping it going (attache is a cafe, shop and a post office) rather the quality of the beer.
The Chatsword Gold was in average condition.
The pub was nice and busy, with bar and separate dining area. Could do with some comfier seats - but I had been walking 16 miles.

An unpretentious village local with rough-plastered white-painted walls, a few pictures of no particular type scattered about. The bar has wood panelling around it, and disappointingly only the one hand pump, serving Black Sheep Bitter. My heart doesn't sink like some people's when faced with the choice: Black Sheep or nothing, but today's beer what not in the best of condition. Not in the least undrinkable, but not as good as it should have been.
This is a larger building than the external appearance had led me to believe, and there are numerous tables dotted about, though no one was eating. Each table had a candle in a brass candle stick, plus a conical bowl filled with nibbles, or whatever the term is for miniature salted biscuits. I thought this was a nice touch. There's a piano around the corner in one of the rooms to the left, and also a quiz machine. Some quite loud music was playing on the sound system, and I enjoyed some of the tracks because they had a bit of quality about them, unlike the pap that so many pubs play.
I quite liked it here, but it would be nice to see it a little busier, and with a better choice of ales. Unfortunately, this pub's position in the village is such that very little of the passing traffic even registers its existence: cars drive through here with scant regard for the speed limit, and there's a sharp bend just in front of the pub. They could do with some advertising at the main roads, both north and south. Some speed humps wouldn't go amiss either.

The above was written 13th June 2013. Since then the pub has survived the threat of closure by becoming a village cooperative. There are now four real ales available, and although the food offering is currently limited, there are plans to improve matters on this front as work on the kitchen progresses. The village post office is planned to move into this building, making it a real hub for the local community.
Beers at the time of my visit were Sheffield Porter, Black Sheep Bitter and the not-even-pretending-to-be-local Doom Bar and Betty Stogs. I was the first customer of the day, and had a half of the first two named, which were both in good condition. Externally the pub seems little changed, with a new hanging sign the only obvious difference. Inside, things have been smartened up considerably, and some decent local photos have been added to brighten the plain walls a little. I hope this venture proves a success for the village, as the only other pub, the Derwent, has been converted to accommodation.

We stopped here for a sunday roast after a hike in Edale. Seemed a little quiet for a sunday afternoon (not many people in) but friendly staff and great food.
