Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Olde Plough Inn

The only pub in the village of Bere Ferrers, there are nice views over the River Tavy from the garden and from the street outside.

Opening hours are limited and there weren't many signs of life at the published Midday opening time on my Wednesday visit. Luckily, a few minutes after 12, the landlady opened up the front door and I strolled in rather hot and bothered.

The pub has stone walls and a mixture of flooring - bare boards, carpet and flagstone. There was no TV or music. However, there is a piano next to the bar. A fireplace to the right holds a wood burner.

The friendly landlady was quite talkative. Just one of the three handpulls was clipped with Firebrand West Coast Session IPA. There were also three varieties of Norcott's cider - Rhubarb, Elderflower and Cherry. Bays Devon Dumpling was available on keg. I opted for the cask beer which was pulled through, but perhaps not enough was pulled, as my beer failed to clear and was a bit on the tangy side.

Food is normally served but they had decided not to open the kitchen on Wednesday due to the high temperatures. I spotted a CAMRA certificate for local rural pub of the year runner up 2026. Indeed, a CAMRA discount is offered but possibly not on halves. Dogs are welcome. Parking is on the lane outside.

Despite the poor beer quality, most probably caused by the heat, I found this to be a friendly and welcoming village local.
