A very attractive-looking place with a thatched roof, halfway up the hill away from the town centre in an upmarket area. The reason for visiting was its CAMRA Inventory listing, I guess for the wood panelling and fireplace (note – this isn’t some super-aged pub, it started out as a small chapel). A compact interior with limited seating and some of the tables were reserved for the food operation. Layout-wise it’s two small areas either side of a central fireplace, with an upstairs area for further dining. There’s a wood beamed ceiling and of course the aforementioned panelling. Three St Austell cask beers on the go; Tribute, a muffled Proper Job (NBSS 2) and a decent Trewlany (3). Fag end of the rugby was being shown on a big screen, away from the gentlefolk eating their chow. Worth a look, especially on a sunny day – the garden looked lovely and there are views (from the right seat) down to the sea. But it isn't really a fully-fledged pub. 6.5
