A very pleasant Palmer’s pub as described below. There are 2 bars, the smaller cosier one at the front which has a welcoming woodburner and a wooden floor. There is limited parking at the front, and it probably gets difficult in the Summer. There are great sea views from the front bar and the outside seating area. The young staff were very pleasant, and the majority of customers civilised. Ales on were 200 and IPA, plus First Press cider. Orchard Gold and Haze were the other cider options plus a couple of keg beers. Food was good quality pub grub. Well off the beaten track but worth the effort.

Back for a quicker walk up Golden Cap - some 8 years later. No other reviews... take it the usual suspects here dont holiday in Dorset :-)
Well, its still finely positioned. The Palmers is still superb. Seems to have kept rules that may have been enforced in Covid.
You are no longer free to roam - all table service and not allowed at the bar. Inside was fully booked and outside is first come, first served - with a maitre d showing people to tables.
The service was efficient and friendly - the menu impressive - with many fish dishes on the specials - but not really feeling much like a pub, when there is a degree of phaff.
Still, find me a better positioned pub for a lovely spring day!

Went to the Palmers Brewery to stock up on some 200 and the man serving said there was "no finer positioned pub in England". The day after, we walked Golden Cap and dropped down to this gem. Everything was superb - from the decor, location and of course the beer. Warm enough to sit outside at first, but then we moved into the quiet side room to peruse the fossil memorabilia. Palmers is definitely a favourite.

This superbly positioned old smugglers’ haunt near the foot of Golden Cap is a great destination for a south coast walk from either direction, or a short drive down from Chideock. It serves Palmers’ Copper Ale, Best, and 200 (a good pint at £3.30 as I recall). The pub itself has several small rooms, but on a warm summer day most of the customers will be found in the garden areas to the front and to the side, the other side of the latter being the cliff, and affording spectacular views of the beach and coastline. There is always a wide range of food on the menu, available all day and often augmented by barbeques in the garden.
