Thatched pub on the main A35. It was fitting that my last pub of the day was once again a Palmer's pub. There are 5 handpulls. IPA & Dorset Gold are the regular cask ales, with 200 & Copper also available. The fifth handpull was unclipped. Dorset Orchards First Press was the cider. I opted for the keg Dorset Pale, which was very ordinary. Most drinkers were on the Guinness, which they all seemed to be unimpressed with.

There are dining rooms to the left and the right as you enter. The bar is to the rear, where dining is also possible. Behind that is another small room up some steps and with a dartboard. There is a raised outdoor patio to the rear with a pizza oven and a car park beyond. Dogs are allowed in. A wifi password is provided.

Staff seemed to be friendly and customers appeared to be locals, rather than tourists.

A pleasant thatched roadside pub currently owned by Palmer’s. There is a car park at the back, the entrance easy to miss. That leads to a paved garden with an outside bar and barbecue facility, sheltered from the noise of the main road and a comfortable place to enjoy an al fresco lunch. Inside, it’s largely open plan with informally delineated drinking and eating areas. The two barmaids were welcoming and good company, and it was devoid of grockles despite the location. Ales on were Dorset Gold and 200, neither on top form, and both over-priced. Also available on keg were Orchard Gold and Haze, Moretti, Amstel, Guinness and Carlsberg. It’s fine for a pitstop but the beer quality and prices mean I wouldn’t necessarily choose it for an evening session.

Another Palmers House. This is a good thing. Much bigger on the inside than you would expect, with front bar, restaurant area and then TV room at the back. They were catering for everyone on a Saturday night. Bar Drinkers, Diners and the England Rugby. Food was excellent value and beer superb. Seemed to be a lot of activities on. A proper village pub.

The George Inn is a nice looking pub that has got a thatched roof and it is a Palmers tied house.
There are a few picnic tables at the front of this pub to watch the traffic go by once inside there is a smartish bar and there is also a seperate dining room, there were three Palmers real ales on the bar i had a drink of Palmers best bitter which was very nice the other beers were Palmers 200 and Dorset Gold.
I thought this was a decent pub to have a few drinks in.

Pub visited 20 August 2002.
