The Thin White Duke is a bar and restaurant that sits behind some café seating found under a large Estrella Umbrella. The entrance is on the left-hand side of the building where the door opens into a window enclosed area with stairs that lead up and down. I didn’t venture from street-level, but I did spy some tables and chairs through the downstairs doorway. This is a long and thin venue with a wooden floor throughout on which a mix of wooden furniture sits. The front was full of diners with prime seating across the front windows, but I remained in the bar at the rear with one other customer who was enjoying the upbeat music just as much as me. The serving counter across the rear supports three keg fonts that were drawing Estrella, which is now brewed in Bedfordshire, Cruzcampo from El Heineken in Manchester and Guinness from the Emerald Isle. There are also some options available from fonts across the back bar, I noted the availability of Blue Moon, a couple of ciders and a couple of craft lagers. There are also two hand pumps that were drawing Cumbrian Ales Loweswater Gold and Allendale Brewery’s Hop On, the former being good. Whilst supping my pint I noticed that the light wiring across the ceiling has been turned into an art installation with the use of some copper piping, well either that or their electrician is a wannabe plumber. I thought this place had great character and the service was very friendly, so after the disappointment of the Howard Arms it was a pleasant surprise to be surprised by the Thin White Duke.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Thin White Duke
Modern bar / restaurant with up-tempo background music and quite full with a young crowd in on a Wednesday evening. Although not that brightly lit after sundown, the generally light furniture and decor and highish ceiling (with intricate cabling conduits) help avoid a gloomy feel. It also has two local beers on handpump: Loweswater Gold and Hawkshead ITI (£3.95).

More of a cafe or bistro than a bar, with waiter service at tables predominating at the time of my visit. There are a couple of stools at the bar and two hand pumps serving Lancaster Citra and Loweswater Gold. I didn't stop for a drink.
