Strongers . left this review about The Rising Sun
The Rising Sun is located on a busy junction so the seating on the cobbled area out front isn’t the most inviting. There is an advertised rear garden, but the typical Manchester weather during my recent Tuesday evening visit dictated that I stayed inside. The exposed brick and lime green paneled interior is L-shaped with a central bar area and angled serving counter opposite the entrance. Standard and premium keg were available alongside Beavertown’s Neck Oil and three hand pumps that were drawing Theakston’s Best and Quencher along with Marston’s 61 Deep. There are also numerous advertisements for drink deals such as multiple shots and Jagerbombs.
To the left of the entrance is a pool table and dartboard. In the larger right-hand side are open plan seating areas as well as a stage that protrudes from the right-hand wall. Live music and karaoke nights are regularly hosted, although unsurprisingly there was only background music during my visit. The televisions throughout had a muted daytime TV show playing, not sure what the point was? Live football is advertised so maybe Sky Sports News would be more appropriate if the TVs must stay on. I thought the service was friendly, in fact even though it was quiet I got a very welcoming vibe so I settled in quickly. I’d have no issue popping back in for another pint, just maybe not on a weekend evening.

A traditional looking roadhouse from the outside. Inside it's been opened out into one huge room with a small area to the left with a pool table and dartboard, there's also a quiz machine which wasn't working on my visit. Loads of b & w pictures of the area all around the walls. There's a For Lease sign on the outside along with a sign that says Under New Management, so who knows what the situation here is. There's a large beer patio at the front allowing you to be choked by all the exhaust fumes from the very busy junction. There are 4 handpump dispensing the very boring selection of Wainwright, Trooper & Bombardier, with one unclipped. The Wainwright was just about OK. It's not worth the walk down from the railway station I'm afraid.

One of the better pubs but it is on the far end of Hazel Groves main road. There were 2 real ales on on this visit.

The Rising Sun was a Wilsons tied house but signed as a chef & brewer pub.
This pub is at the southern end of Hazel Grove it has a black and white part mock tudor front and it was quite smart inside.
I had a drink of Wilsons Bitter this was ok.
Pub visited 9 March 1989.
