As noted below this is a small example of a classic Northern pub with a corridor and two rooms. Sadly, visiting it on a Friday afternoon is not the best idea as it was packed. By the time I left there were also hordes of people drinking outside on both sides of the street.
I couldn't get to see what was on the eight hand pumps but spotted and went for the Titanic Plum Porter (£4.00) which was in good nick but expensive. It seems this place is a victim of its own success and my score is based on what it's like on a late Friday afternoon. I'd quite like to see it at a quieter time when I've no doubt the score would increase. It's GBG 2019 listed and I was surprised to see on What Pub that it's owned by Greene King.

Set in the middle of a row of three pubs this is a small city centre classic.Traditional exterior,the main door gives access to a wood panelled tap room with a darts board to the right which could only be played at very quiet times,fitted bench seating below the front window and a very traditional feel.There is a charming back room,original features abound and again long bench seating along either side.Dont miss the corridor serving hatch with a narrow shelf to rest your pint and called the Executive Lounge,a lovely feature.There is a small exit door here.
8 Handpumps were on the go offering Bristol Beer Factory Unplanned Nights and Gambler,Brightside Odin,Serious Evergreen,Bank Top Flat Cap,First Chop Manchester Bitter,Old Tower Pale Ale and Titanic Plum Porter (great nick).An impressive list ,and despite the pub being busy after work on a Friday this in no way spoiled the visit,service was uber efficient.
A must visit ,this pub really deserves a long session rather than my brief crawl visit.I will be back.

This is one of my favourite Manchester pubs.
Called in on Saturday night and 8 pumps were all in use. Titanic Plum Porter seems to be a regular fixture in here, the rest were all pale and blonde ales, but I guess it's the time of year where stouts and porters are not as popular. I had the Aotearoa by Manchester Brewing Company, absolutely no idea how to pronounce it but it tasted alright. This was my last pub of the day before my train home and I have to say I was getting a bit bored of the pale beers, perhaps I should have gone for the Plum Porter but I am always a sucker for spotting something I have not had before and wanting to try it.
A very traditional pub, seating in the back room with some seating round the edges in the front and a bit of standing room. Dark wood and mirrors are the order of the day. Busy but not uncomfortably so, and a pleasant atmosphere with decent beer. One that is worth seeking out if you are visiting Manchester.

Superb city pub with a wonderfully old-fashioned feel and an excellent selection of real ales, tucked away in a side street. Internal description as previous review; beers well kept (Cask Marque listed). Well worth a visit, and could happily spend the night!

Busy and lively on an early Wednesday evening, you enter to a small area with the bar to one side and a dartboard on another wall, down a step to a slightly larger rear room where most of the seating is situated, simple and traditional in style being button backed banquettes and small round tables facing each other across the room. Boarded floor, green painted ceiling, leaded windows with some stained glass, a fireplace on the end wall has a walnut surround and a large mirror above. B&W prints of old local scenes, many featuring trams. On the window shelf were a selection of traditional games, dominoes, chequers boards, cards plus a range of back issues of the GBG.
A good range of beers on, no mainstreams, Slightly Foxed Howling Fox, Millstone Vale Mill, Mobberley Brewhouse Red Vienna, Moorhouse Pride of Pendle plus Premier Bitter, Titanic Plum Porter and the rather good Mobberley Fine Ales Maori. Stacks of pump clips over the bar show the rotation policy, deservedly popular, this is a fine pub indeed.

Excellent little boozer. Very good selection of beers though a dark beer would've been welcome on this visit. But 8 cask ales is not to be sniffed at.

Best of the three pubs here, very much a traditional city centre watering hole unchanged in decades, with a small bar area plus a larger room down a few stairs. A friendly welcome, and a nice range of beers from Moorhouse and Timothy Taylor. Makes a handy escape from the nearby conference centre. GBG 2015 listed

A decent traditional pub and is well worth a visit. The barmaid was friendly and welcoming. There were also a couple of decent customers here on our midweek afternoon visit. Eight ales on, I went for the Youngs Bitter, it's still one of my old favourites. Will call again.

Nice little pub with plenty of choce of hand pulled beer only thing that can spoil it is that people wont move from the bar for you but will call back
