Blue Scrumpy left this review about Queens Arms
Walney Island can be reached by an easy road/pedestrian bridge from Barrow and a short drive down country lanes leads you to the village of Biggar, which has a real remote feel.
Parts of the Queens Arms date back to the 17th century and the village pub has a real traditional feel. The barman was outside, possible sweeping up leaves when I arrived. I walked in with him and found another guy sat in a throne-like chair inside. He turned out to be the owner. The two proceeded to have a fascinating conversation about pubs, beer and the business in particular.
Coniston Bluebird Bitter is the regular beer here. The guest was Townhouse Columbus, which was a really lovely beer kept in perfect condition. The barman also really knew his stuff and it wasn't long before we were heavily engaged in conversation about local pubs and local history. Before long, some of the villagers also arrived and conversation turned to a forthcoming wedding between two of the customers.
I really enjoyed my visit here. It was easily my favourite pub of this trip to the north of England and was almost everything I like in a pub - character, decent beer, great location, service, friendliness etc.
