Went past today, scaffolding up & exterior being repaired & painted. I do not know if this means pub will reopen or just become offices / flats. One to keep an eye on

Update 10 Oct 2009 - now open again, until January. I was informed that it will open until then, the Wheelbarrow will then be refurbed & reopen as a bar / restaurant
At present it is fairly sparse, very few seats & tables. two hand pull bitters, Ringwood & London Pride, pool table & that's it
Down to 2 stars from 3
Update 7 Oct 2009 - reported to be re-opening, next time I'm in Southsea I will check it out
Feb 2009 - Shut & boarded up, in control of Punch Taverns according to note in window
March 2009, now open again, hooray. Went in Sunday lunchtime, only recently reopened so limited beer, in fact only Pedigree on, but it was a very nice pint
Rumour is the site may be sold for devolopment, but in the present credit crunch times this may be far in the future now
Useless fact, Peter Sellers was born in house over the road, worth visiting just for that
Update Aug 2009 - Closed again, and according to Portsmouth Pub News web site it will not be opening as a pub again

The Wheelbarrow is a largish pub that is situated opposite southsea common.
The pubs lower half was painted black when we went i here which i think made the pub look a bit seedy from the outside but once inside it was'nt has bad as i thought it would be,there was one room that had different drinking areas with some of these were on raised levels.
This was a Whitbread tied house when we did this pub and there was one real ale on here this was Whitbread Flowers bitter and this was a decent drink.
