The inside gives the impression that it is more of a restaurant than a but but at least there were a few real ales on with Castle Rock Elsy Mo being in fair form. Large comfortable beer garden at the front.

A very busy pub/restaurant in its own grounds, primarily aimed at the cash-rich over 40s sector. The Georgian house looks a bit out of place in its modern setting. There is a large bar area and an equally large dining area. Lots of theme nights are advertised and it was very lively – far too noisy for my liking. Free wifi is available. Three ales on – I had Courage Chip and Chase which was insipid but still drinkable. OK if you like that sort of thing and probably fine for celebrating eightieth birthdays, funerals and election victories.

Update 26 Sept 2009 I was a bit wary as it is in "student" country, however in furtherance of research I ventured in on a Sunny Saturday lunchtime

It's actually very pleasant inside, large open bar, separate TV area but not overpowering [Pompey were losing to Everton btw], settees, pool table, even cash machine [chargeable]

4 draught bitters on, London Pride, HSB, Youngs & Bombardier, plus usual lagery stuff. Around £3 a pint

Outside seating & eating area, ideal in summer

Varied food menu, including daily specials, range from £2.50 for chips to £13 for tuna steak. Fish & chips £10.50. Never tried the food, but plenty were eating & ordering food, so guess it is good value

Disabled access & toilet plus baby nappy changing. Pub closes at 9.30PM, so not one for late night revellers

One small downside, the gents had a leak in one urinal drainage, collected in bucket which was overflowing, however this I'm sure is just temporary until fixed [it was the weekend remember]

All in all worth a visit if in area

4 Feb 2009 Now reverted to it's original name of The White Horse

When we went in this pub it was called Langtrys.
The pub looked like an old manor house from the outside and it is set back from the main road with a decent sized garden in front of the pub,the pub is opposite southsea common.
Once inside there was one largish room that had different drinking areas and it was quite smart, this pub was a Whitbread tied house but there were no real ales available from the Whitbread range, there was one real ale on the bar this was Courage Directors and this was a decent drink.
