E TA left this review about The Walhampton Arms

Originally a single-storey continental-style farmhouse, complete with courtyard, it was converted to a pub in the late 20th Century. At first it was called Towles, and it’s now run by the small Heartstone chain. It feels a bit like a modern motel crossed with a coaching inn, with a mix of wooden and laminate floors and the largely open barn-like space informally divided into eating, drinking and seating areas. It all feels rather sterile with little pub atmosphere. The courtyard, from which the main door is entered, is mainly a seating area with tables, benches and chairs. The staff were cheerful and friendly, while there were only two locals in who didn’t stay long and didn’t add to the atmosphere. One ale on, Flack’s Double Drop, which was in poor condition. This was complemented by Inch’s Cider, Moretti, Wingman and Amstel, though the dog biscuits looked like a better bet. Human food was unnecessarily expensive – standard pub fare plus Sunday lunches and a carvery on occasion. It was a disappointing walk up from the town, which I’ m unlikely to repeat.
