E TA left this review about Chequers Inn

A well-hidden country 18th Century red brick pub well off the beaten track. We couldn’t actually see the pub building as it was hidden by other houses, marquees in the side and back gardens and hedge rows. Without the pub sign you wouldn’t find it so easily. There is a car park at the front which was full of vintage and premium car brands when we visited. The interior core comprised an L-shaped open plan bar with a servery in the corner and a piano. There was also a fully decorated Christmas tree with a sign saying not to ask, exposed timbers, timber and tiled flooring and an open fireplace. There was a second bar under the marquee covering the front terrace, though this is apparently seasonal. There were lots of very loud customers and a loud jukebox, but otherwise it was quite a pleasant place to be. Ales on were three from Flack’s – Double Drop, Gold and New Forest Bitter, all in superb condition. Also on were Weston’s Vintage Cider, Lilley’s Cider, Inch’s, Guinness, Cruzcampo, Moretti, Thatcher’s Gold and Stowford Press. A thoroughly enjoyable visit to an excellent traditional pub which is well worth repeating.
