A typical country pub opposite the Basingstoke canal and therefore attract's ramblers and other canal users, because of its location the pub leans toward the food end of the scale and has an extended conservatory that serves as a restaurant area. The pub area itself is opened out to one continuous area but as it wraps around the bar ,most of the length of the building not all is visible from any one place, plenty of seating is available for further dining space or just somewhere for a drink. The flooring is part varnished floorboards and part carpeted.Outside is a fairly spacious garden area with a cricket field attached that can be used for functions when no cricket is being played. The beers available I found to be a rather bland selection from the three hand pumps,Fullers London Pride,Sharps Doom Bar and Hogsback T.E.A. I had the latter which despite the extremely warm day, I found to be a little over chilled and of average quality, there was a fourth hand pump dispensing Westons Old Rosie cider and despite the 7.3% strength I found myself wishing I'd had a half of that instead of the T.E.A. I don't know how good the food is but I wouldn't detour here for the beer alone.
