Traditional off-the-beaten-track locals country boozer that is close to the canal. L shaped and the interior is stuck in the mid-60s, presumably the last time it was refurbed; fabric padded settles, wonky ceiling beams. Small, tight and homely, the main part of the bar is for locals and boozing whilst there’s an uneasy dining section on the spur. The large rear garden has camping. Three ales on; two from Sharps (Doom Bar and Atlantic) and Tim Taylor Boltmaker. I was quite excited by seeing the Boltmaker, however my half was pretty ropey – hazy and with some sea monsters. Has been a recent GBG entry so not a great visit. Perhaps I’d give it another go sometime as there was certainly a bit of character.
