E TA left this review about The Cartwheel
A pleasant village pub, well off the beaten track, in a small community dedicated to horses. Currently run by Marston’s, it’s formed from a row of 18th Century brick cottages which used to include the village wheelwright’s shop, hence the name. There is a small car park at one side and a very pleasant, tidy garden at the rear. Inside, the bars are open plan with low walls separating various areas, there are exposed timbers and an open fireplace. No electronic distractions other then the WiFi. It’s a working village pub, not chocolate-boxey but very pleasant. The main industry around here is horse racing, and that is reflected in the décor and artefacts around the walls, including memorabilia from Desert Orchid who was a local celebrity. The staff were very friendly and helpful, while the clientele were a mixed bag of holiday makers and locals. Food was reasonably priced, not gastro but a good quality basic pub menu. Three ales on, all from Ringwood. I had the Ringwood Best which was past its sell-by date but still drinkable. Worth dropping in for a lunch or a few pints if in the area.
