Smashing community pub with very friendly hosts, who spent some time talking with the two strangers in town.
Very decent pint of Wye Valley Bitter but its the food that will last in the memory. Home made Rabbit Pie for Mrs M and Lasagne for me. Excellent.

I passed this way by accident, having taken a diversion from my planned cycle route to take in the Cottage of Content; finding that pub not open on a Monday afternoon, I was then desperate for a beer: any beer. Fortunately I found this place. Only one real ale on (out of four hand pumps, but with two pump clips turned around, so they probably have more on at the weekend), but a very good one it was, being Wye Valley Bitter. This is fairly close in style to Hobsons Best, and in my opinion a much more palatable beer than Wye Valley Butty Bach or HPA. There were a few people in, probably locals, and a family of tourists also popped in, so there is some value in country pubs opening on a Monday after all. The pub itself, not a terribly attractive building, seems to have had a bit of an internal spruce up, looking fairly modern and bright. There's a campsite attached, so I imagine they do quite well at weekends.
