Now this is a bit of a find. This old fashioned, some might say quaint, hotel sits quietly behind a row of parked cars in the market square in the centre of Appleby, a town that is quiet all year and then there's a horse fair. Once inside, the bar is in a room to the right off the hall, and what a delightful room it is. The small bar is in the corner, and while I was waiting to be served I was looking around at all the really classy old furniture and pictures. Every table and chair - and there are lots - is a gem. The walls are covered in paintings and prints, most of them, as far as I could make out, for sale; they all depicted local wildlife. A stuffed fish was in a display over the bar. There was one beer on hand pump, plus a couple of kegs, but otherwise this is more your coffee and cake type of bar. The beer was fine (local Corby Ale) and I will be coming here again the next time I have a train to catch from Appleby.
