Now part of the Inn Collection Group, which means everything is very smart, very expensive and in very poor taste, but in this one there's a bit of an emphasis on cask beers, which the server told me proudly the staff get to choose themselves. The pump clips lined up behind the bar included Kirkby Lonsdale, Black Sheep, Theakstons, Hawkshead and Bowness Bay, so there's nothing earth-shattering here, but my half of 1822 from the first named in that bunch was in very good condition (NBSS 3.5) so they seem to know what they're doing. There's something a bit quirky about this pub, which I guess is appropriate for a Temperance Inn that sells alcohol. I'll probably call back once the Christmas decorations have been taken down.

A pub-by-numbers which is ok. Not the greatest but acceptable.

A modern sports bar with multiple screens showing, when I was here, a football match on some and a darts tournament on the others. Although there's the usual plethora of lager fonts, there are also four hand pumps with tasting notes on a board above the bar. Three beers on sale when I was here were Coniston Bluebird XB (a new 4.2% version of the former champion beer of the GBBF), Thwaites Wainwright and Hawkshead Bitter. At £3.40 a pint I won't be hurrying to go back here again, but it'll no doubt suit some down to the ground.

Dire sports bar modernisation of old hotel. Bare wooden floors, very high or very low tables and all dominated by intrusive large screens typically showing some obscure football match. Dining area at rear. Beers seem to be centred on Thwaites with local guests, but at time of visit only 1 of 4 handpumps in use. For sports fans only, although the presence of disco lights hinted at even worse later on.
