A ancient old building from the outside but the inside has been knocked about a bit, leaving a mixture of modernish decor and odd bits of exposed brick- and timber- work. It does seem to be a bit of a locals' pub with a cheery old landlady, but the three handpumps are still unused with Bear Island as the only keg bitter now on. It could be so much better.

As described below, this historic pub, currently owned by Shepard Neame, sits on the edge of the renovated shopping area named after a different brewery. While it was friendly enough, there was no real ale on, which doesn’t look good for the Brewery or the pub. The best they could manage was Whitstable Bay and Spitfire on keg, which really didn’t hit the spot. Lack of ale and limited opening times make it highly unlikely I’ll be back.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Royal Albion
A fine old building, but now looking rather out of place beside the towering Fremlin Walk shopping centre. Partially opened out to leave three compact spaces within a split-level layout. Large front patio. Busy enough during the day - a handy spot to escape to if your other half finds the soulless shops more appealing than a pint of Shepherd Neame - but usually dead as a dodo on most weekday evenings (when the music gets turned up instead). Master Brew, Spitfire and a seasonal (e.g. Mild, £3.50) available from the three handpumps.

Strongers . left this review about The Royal Albion
The Royal Albion is located next to the shopping centre and there are a few tables and chairs on the wide pedestrian zone out the front. I was the only customer when I popped in mid-afternoon on Tuesday so there wasn't much going on, but the jukebox was playing a few random songs at a low volume and the plasma TV was showing muted rolling news. The A-board outside advertises a pub quiz, karaoke, live music and theme nights, but there were no specific dates for upcoming events. The usual Shepherd Neame products are available from the bar and the advertised food was very reasonably priced, although I know not of the quality. The main body of seating is up a few steps at the rear of the pub and a piano, pool tables and the toilets are also found here.
The service was friendly enough and my pint was ok so maybe I'd pop back in if passing, but I wouldn't make a special trip.
