The White Hart is a rustic Kentish pub a stone’s throw from the River Rother and the East Sussex border. There’s a car park and at the rear is a large grass covered beer garden with lots of picnic tables and six covered huts that run up the right-hand side. Inside the pub is L-shaped with a bar up the left and sofa seating that leads to a bare boarded dining area to the right. In the laminate floored bar a long L-shaped serving counter faces a couple of brass topped tables in the front windows and an inglenook on the left-hand wall. Fosters, Peroni, Cruzcampo, Jubel, Neck Oil and Guinness were the keg options and the six hand pumps were drawing Harveys Best and Rother Valley’s Level Best. At the far end of the counter is a tiny snug in the left-hand wall and there’s seating at the rear by the doors to the aforementioned beer garden that was starting to fill up during my recent sunny Friday afternoon visit. The lady running the bar was polite without being very welcoming, I put this down to the pub being a little busier than usual. Worth a look.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The White Hart
Newenden on a sunny summer Sunday is a real picture, with its weatherboarded pub, curious church tower, cricket ground and historic bridge conjuring-up the nostalgic and timeless England of George Orwell and John Major. I had thought about a quick stop anyway, since my last visit was some years ago, but seeing the sign proclaiming 'Beer & Music Festival 2016' was a clincher. The 12 real ales were being served from a wooden shed out in the garden, which was full of families sat on the wooden picnic benches and on the grass, all enjoying a nice relaxed afternoon. The local Hot & Rothered had sold out, so I opted for the single-hop Beerd Blueprint (although nobody had the first idea what variety had been used). Just popped inside for a quick look at the pleasantly traditional interior, with the staff working overtime washing glasses and generally keeping the show on the road. Splendid.

Our most recent visit was on Good Friday evening for a family birthday. A traditional Kentish weatherboard timber framed pub, close to the River Rother on the Kent and East Sussex borders.A central bar, with drinking areas to the left and rear, with tables and chairs set for dining to the right.The inglenook hosts a remarkable and historic fireback.
A freehouse,it’s probably the nearest pub to the home of the long established microbrewery Rother Valley, over the river in Northiam, and usually stocks at least one beer from that company. On this visit the flagship Level Best was available,and in good form, together with a guest from Black Country Ales, alongside Harvey’s Sussex Best Bitter, and Youngs.
As befits an isolated community, the Hart seems to be the hub of village activities, and drinkers aren’t excluded in favour of diners.
This pub may look familiar to older visitors, as it was featured in a TV commercial for John Courage keg, back in the seventies.

Popped in for Sunday roast. As I've said before, the food's not cheap, but it's good, and there's four decent ales on the hand pump. And two of them aren't the ubiquitous "get everywhere" London Pride and Harvey's

Very good pub serving (amongst other beers) Rother Valley's Level Best which is brewed only half a mile away. A welcoming atmosphere, family friendly and clean. Excellent food, not cheap, but then you get what you pay for. Have used the place for family Xmas dinners and family reunions in the past and have never been disappointed
