This is the second oldest pub in Broadstairs and has a prime location on the Harbour. We found the manager on our visit to be very welcoming and chatty. The interior has an upstairs restaurant which looks over the English Channel and they do lunchtime specials such as Fish Pie for £10. The main pub area on the ground floor consisted of two main seating areas either side of the entrance. The bar ran along the back wall and was finished in a stained pine. Four ales on pump, which were Adnams Broadside, GK IPA, Hobgoblin, as it was Halloween, and Gadds No. 5. We went for the Gadds and took a seat on the left of entrance. The manager advised us to move to the opposite end of the pub to a seat near the window. He explained that this had a better view over the harbour and as it was a clear day, you could see across to Deal. To sum up this was a homely and friendly pub, where maybe on a next visit, we will stay for lunch.

Being advertised as 'the finest seafood restaurant in Kent' and in a prime location by the harbour, I expected this to be an upmarket eatery. This might be applicable to the restaurant upstairs but the downstairs is a good traditional pub. As mentioned below, it is in the Thorley Taverns group, which all seemed to be offering beers from Courage and Belhaven, along with one from Gadds locally. Pleasant enough.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Tartar Frigate
One of the best pubs in the Thorley Taverns empire, situated in a fine spot in the oldest part of Broadstairs near the little harbour. Small 'L'-shaped bar and dining area, with another small bar and pool table beyond. Very traditional furniture and decor. Seafood restaurant upstairs. Deuchars IPA, Master Brew, Abbot and Adnams Gunhill (£2.50) available from the six handpumps. Overall, well worth seeking out if in the area. (NB - Review dates from August 2011.)
