Quinno _ left this review about Champs

Sports bar. Bank of TVs, pool and darts etc. Dull grey shades for décor and quite dark inside, so maybe a useful bolt-hole on the highest of summer days. No cask – inevitably - so a very good Guinness, served-up by a professional barmaid who actually did work hard rather than just loafing about on her phone. Ticked-off, I’m unlikely to return.

Strongers . left this review about Champs

It was party time in Champs with a disco and dancing in full swing early evening on bank holiday Monday last week and looking at the enormous size of the DJ booth on the left-hand wall I expect that this is a regular occurrence. On the left wall before the DJ booth is a dartboard and in a recess behind in the left rear corner is a pool table. High tables run up the centre of the pub and there’s seating in the front right window adjacent to the serving counter that runs up the right-hand wall where standard, premium and mainstream craft keg products are available. A large projector screen behind the DJ booth and the televisions throughout were airing muted Sky Sports that really wasn’t necessary because nobody is going to the town’s party pub to read sports subtitles. The lack of ale will turn some off and the lack of peace will turn off others, I’m in both camps.

Old Boots left this review about Champs

As the name suggests a teenage drinking venue, high seating, screens, machines, music at reasonable levels, a bit of lower seating in the front corners. Ventured in as WhatPub said it had a couple of cask beers but they’re long gone, had a reasonable craft keg, too cold and too fizzy but acceptable, the only interesting beer among 14 dreary UK (and Ireland) kegs. It surprisingly has a dart board in the front left raised area and there’s a pool table off to one side.

Not a bad town centre pub but didn't seem to be a locals place. Old Speckled Hen amongst the hand pumps.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Unicorn Hotel

Quite a substantial town-centre pub, with a cheap food and drinks offering similar to Wetherspoons (albeit with more decoration). Fairly transient atmosphere, and appears to be part of M&B's small Samuel Cooper chain. Real ales on handpump include EPA, Pedigree and Bass (very good value at £2.20).
