Strongers . left this review about The Fly

I was drawn into the Fly by the interesting glass frontage above which there seems to be a balcony. Inside there are raised carpeted seating areas in the large windows either side of the entrance and a marble topped serving counter runs up the right facing a mix of high and standard tables with stools and banquettes up the left. There are also two tiny pool tables on a raised seating are in the right rear. Televisions throughout were airing Premier League football via TNT Sport. Premium keg was available alongside Neck Oil, but only two of the six hand pumps were being used with Saltaire Blonde and Theakston Best being on. The service was polite, but now that I’ve had a look around I don’t plan on returning.

A modernish style bar with six handpumps, four beers on when I visited which were Saltaire Blonde, Kirkstall Three Swords and Theakston Best Bitter and XB. It's worth a look.

Reopened after a refurb. Inside has been opened out even more with the removal of the upper level opposite the bar. The ledge and seats along the front windows have gone also. Approximately 4000 tellies to keep you up to date with the latest sport news. Still 6 handpull for proper beer and several keg taps around for those who like it fizzy, cold and bland.

Quite an odd place - from the menu - all various types of loaded fries and burgers - and drinks offers, I think its aiming for students. Yet with no students around, this cavernous pub was empty.

Massive bar, with loads of tables and chairs - and more space upstairs. High stools in the Window to watch the world go by.

I automatically had a CAMRA discount applied (I'm not a current member) so my TT Landlord came to the odd price of £4.23.

GBG2023 but there's some serious competition around here!

I have given it so many chances, and I just cannot warm to this pub. Always a decent range of ales but the opened out interior just doesn’t feel inviting or comfortable and i inevitably have second thoughts and move over to the Roscoe Head up the road. I know I’m not the only one that feels like this. Give it a try, maybe you’ll feel differently?

I haven't been into this pub for a few years now, but paid a return visit late on Wednesday evening. Formerly a bakery, this is a large pub which stretches back a fair way. Toilets are upstairs, along with a function room.

On the ground floor, the long bar has a number of handpulls and fonts for craft beers and more mainstream keg products. Okell's Bitter is the regular beer. Guests on our visit were Ossett White Rat & Red Centennial, Roosters Variation on a Theme & Mobberley 1924. Craft beers included Mobberley Loco Juice & Salt Jute.

Still in the latest Good Beer Guide, this is a worthy stop in what is a decent part of the city for pubs.

Called in this 2019 Good Beer Guide pub and found Okells beers plus four guests. Theakstons Shot in the Dark, Rat White Rat,Ilkley Summer, and Roosters Baby Faced Assassin. We chose the Theakstons which was fine.

We've visited several times since my last review. Always a very good selection of beer and the staff are always excellent. I still think it's a great pub, despite the last couple of reviews. Maybe I'm still a bit hip. :-)) A excellent pint of Crate Pale this time around as well.

Another pub we always visit when in Liverpool and this time was no different. Excellent choice of well kept beer, efficient and knowledgeable staff. It's a great pub, in fact it's Ms CAMRA's favourite in the city.

Visited 3 times over a long weekend recently. Great pub with a decent selection of real ales, Okells + guests. We ate here one lunchtime and the food was good, it looked a bit pricey at first, but then we realised it was buy one get one free! The beer was excellent on all 3 visits as was the service. It was absolutely packed on the Saturday night, still got served OK though. One to visit.

Have to agree with Mr Quinno. I've never seen the appeal of this place, or Rigbys to be honest, despite the real ales available.

Despite the magnificent exterior this in actuality a heavily modern Okells place, with four of theirs plus two guests. I tried one of each; Okells St Nicks (end of barrel) and Odyssey Evil Empire which was much better. Plenty of craft keg etc available. Long and narrow internally, a bit like a Spoons (I kid you not) with a raised area to the left. The large main bar area is for vertical drinking. Fairly blandly decorated (some wood panelling to the rear and tiled flooring excepted) the bar was the star, quite a striking charcoal black with some nice embossed finials and a very long marble-style bar top. Gripe point was the pub was stupidly hot, probably down to a preponderance of those crappy hipster lightbulbs on a wire that seem to be de rigeur at the moment; may have lost as much weight drinking my pint as Gary Lineker did against Cameroon in Italia 90. Decent enough beer barn but I’m struggling to see why it’s held in such high regard elsewhere, really. Preferred the other Okells house I sampled, Thomas Rigby’s.
