The British Protection is a tidy local with laminate flooring and grey banquettes to the right of the entrance. On the right-hand wall above an exposed brick fireplace with burner is a television that was airing Bolton v Barnsley in a League 1 play-off semi. The sound was on so the jukebox was off. There’s a step up to a rear carpeted seating area with the same furniture colour scheme, my nana would be happy in there. A U-shaped serving counter is found to the left of the entrance where standard keg was available alongside San Miguel. In this bar area to left are high tables, a pool table and more televisions. The service was friendly and the customers all seemed nice enough during a recent Tuesday evening visit. I’d use this pub if I lived locally.

Didn't open until 4 on the Thursday I visited. Pretty standard pub-by-numbers fare with an overexcited dog.

This is a pretty standard locals pub on the edge of the town centre. Two rooms, one has a pool table, the other a dartboard. 3 handpumps on the bar, but no ale actually on. There are some pump clips behind the bar though, so it's probably dabbled in real ale at some time. It was pretty busy on my Friday, early evening visit, which is a bit surprising considering how nondescript it is. I won't be bothering again.

Locals pub right on the edge of the town bar on your left as you walk in it serves two rooms the door on the corner not in use looks as if the have knocked through into the houses at some stage. Think its a free house had all sorts of beers on no hand pulled so had a pint of Cumberland smooth which was cold and tasted very weak. But the pub was clean and tidy.
Will call back but not for Cumberland smooth
