There's been a change of ownership since my previous review, with people from outside the area and new to the business having taken over and "cleared a lot of rubbish out". There are now local beers from Dark Horse brewery of Hetton, just a few miles away, and the two that I had were in very good condition. It's a lot smarter inside than before, though some of the furniture and decorations might be a little fussy. I was made to feel very welcome though only drinking a half on each of my visits - it's a bit too far from Malham for an evening visit by bike or walking, but apparently quite a few locals do use the pub.

An old building in local stone in this quiet village - full name Kirkby in Malhamdale - with the date 1840 above the door, and an ancient sundial above that. Once inside it's a multiroomed pub with the bar in the room to the left, and the room to the right featuring a pool table and Sky Sports on tv.
On the bar are six hand pumps (see photos) with three from Timothy Taylor, two from Westgate Brewery (this is Clarks of Wakefield rather than Greene King of Bury St Edmunds) and also one from Naylors. My half of Boltmaker was in good condition but the pub lacked atmosphere, probably because I caught it at a quiet time of day.
