Home for the night. Nice hotel. Bar had no other punters than the staff and decent Theakstons Bitter.

Stunning views - worth going in the summer.

Sitting on a steep hill above the village, the views across the valley from this pub are fitting reward for the effort that might be involved in getting here. A strangely named pub, as I've seen countless others that look much more like a farmhouse than this one does. It gives the impression of a small manor house, which is reinforced by the strong smell of furniture polish on entering. The interior is beautifully presented, with good taste exhibited in the furniture and decor throughout. The bar is fairly small and is around the corner from the entrance, with three hand pumps serving York Guzzler, Theakstons Best Bitter and Grey Hawk Pippin (previously Copper Dragon). The landlord, formerly of a pub in the suburbs of Sheffield, was friendly and obviously knows how to keep his beer. A CD of 1960s hits was not too obtrusive during my visit. Not one I would necessarily go out of the way to visit again, but I was glad I came; one mark out of the 7 is for the view.

This is a welcoming inn with great views across the dale. We stopped off for a quick lunch during a day out. The friendly staff rustled up a sandwich (decent sausage in brown baguette with loads of salad on the side) even though the lunch time was just about over. Take a look around the building for lovely bits of woodwork rescued from a demolished church.
